Famous People Biographies 2015

Why do we admire musicians R5, Eminem, Deadmau5, Guns N’ Roses, Zayn Malik, Beyonce, actress Sandra Bullock and basketball-player Allen Iverson? Here are some of the answers:
“I think they’re very talented and they play with their hearts. They love what they do and it’s very important.”
“I admire him because he helped so many people get on with their lives.”
“He is very unique, he wears his costume, the mouse helmet, at every performance he has and he is very humorous.”
“They are very old, but still very good.”
“He is my favourite singer and he is a great person.”
“She is very successful and she cares a lot about her fans.”
“I think it is great that she donates money to charity.”
“He is a great example of a person who grows and learns through his mistakes.”

Me and My World

As the majority of us go to different primary schools, we have met a lot of new friends at Lingva. We are not sure whether we have more friends or sports that we are interested in, such as volleyball, basketball, cycling, running, tennis, football and karate. In any case we mostly do sports and English together with our friends, and so we have even more fun.

Lingva Multimedia Projects: The Best School Trip

This time most of Lingva students presented a school trip to Novi Sad as the most memorable one. They were very impressed with a lot of new things they saw, especially The Museum of Jovan Jovanović, one of the best Serbian poets, nicknamed “the Dragon”, the Name of Mary Church, with its colourful stained-glass windows and a big clock, and the Nature Museum, with its varied collections and enormous mamoth remains.  In addition to Novi Sad, the other popular places described in this project by Jelisaveta, Mirjana, Marija, Filip, Ognjen, Aleksandar, Nikola, and Aleksa, with support from teacher Katarina Andrić, were Belgrade, Zlatibor, Vrnjačka Banja and mountains Suvobor and Rajac. As in all school trips, they had a lot of fun in the bus, making jokes, listening to music, playing games on mobile phones, and taking funny photos. In the mentioned big cities they did not forget, of course, to visit a McDonald’s restaurant, which we still do not have in Valjevo. One day in the future, when they grow up, these posters and presentations will remind them of all carefree moments they enjoyed on these trips.

Learning of English Tenses Can Be a Pastime

Learning of English tenses can be fun if done through interesting texts, such as excerpts from biographies of famous actors and singers: Sean Connery, Jesse Williams, Avril Lavigne, Johnny Depp, Curt Cobain and Eminem. As we could once again see for ourselves that what we recognize in a text cannot be automatically acquired and that practice makes perfect, the least we can do is to tailor such practice to our interests.
These contributions to Lingva’s treasure trove of interactive exercises “Learn Better English” were made by our students, as part of their preparation for the Cambridge CAE exam – Sofija Rajković, Jovana Đokić, Milica Milisavljević, Tamara Šarčević, Ana Petrović, Jana Perić and Marijana Janković, together with their teacher Mirjana Ljiljak-Vukajlović.

Our Favourite Movies by A2.a Group 2

Here are some more movies that we have watched recently. Some are scary, some epic and some are witty and romantic. Sometimes we do not know whether we prefer film stars or special effects. Very often we like a good story with fantastic creatures or with teenage resourcefulness. The films we like best are Resident Evil: Extermination, The Lord of the Rings and Zapped.

Simple posters and neat personal notes with drawings of basic terms help both young and adult learners learn better German at Lingva – David, Kalina, as well as Aleksandar Đuričić have already realized, through their teacher Ivana Vujić, that visuals and personalising help us acquire foreign languages more easily.

Our ongoing ELL multimedia project called Curtain Raisers has been extended with new proposals on how to improve quality of life of young people in Valjevo. Stating that there are already more than enough coffee bars in Valjevo and that young people need to visit new places and new things to see and take part in, Isidora, Emilija, Filip, Mina, Borko, Anastasija, Jovana and Jelena, supported with teacher Katarina, have suggested some more interesting activities and events – camping school trips and summer camps in the countryside round Valjevo, including rock camps, sports tournaments and music festivals, as well as educational programmes such as astronomy lectures and astrophotography exhibitions. Their presentations have been recorded as slideshows and video clips. This year the project was facilitated by teacher Katarina Andrić.

On 21 June 2014, continuing the series of Enlivening Language Skills in-house workshops, after the 19th workshop in February this year  on the skills of reading, Lingva teachers gathered to present and try out the activities designed to develop writing skills. This workshop covered all age groups and a broad range of levels, from Primary A1.b to (Young) Adult C1, as well as various types of written tasks – instructions, biographies, stories and references. All sessions featured use of colourful realia and attractive multimedia resources for the purpose of boosting motivation of students for active language learning. As before, this was one more opportunity to share valuable first-hand teaching experience.
